Day hikes in Chamonix
The French Alpine resort of Chamonix has without doubt some of the most awe inspiring high mountain scenery to be found anywhere. The tumbling glaciers, soaring aiguilles, and beautiful mountain villages and hamlets dotted along the Chamonix valley make this Europe’s premiere Alpine resort.
Unlike many modern ski resorts Chamonix is not a purpose built ski resort and has largely been saved from the concrete monstrosities, which blight so much of the Alps. It is blessed with not only an internationally renowned ski area but also with an elegant, cosmopolitan and bustling town centre. With cobbled streets, majestic villas, grand hotels and open squares, Chamonix is much more than just another ski resort and has kept much of its original mountain charm and retains a very French, very friendly and very alpine atmosphere.
Imp Adventures will spend 4 days introducing you to some of the Chamonix valley’s most scenic and interesting trails. We will be based in the charming village of ‘Les Houches’ and each day we will travel to a different area of the Chamonix valley. Utilizing cable cars where appropriate we will aim to spend as much time on the high trails as possible so as to enjoy the best views and the most spectacular alpine scenery.
This adventure is suitable for those with modest fitness who wish to join other outdoor minded people on an alpine voyage of discovery, where every bend in the path brings another photograph and every footstep another flower.

- Day 3 – Moderate Hike - Walk from Courmayeur in Italy up to the Bertone refuge (cold drink stop), then climb to the Tete Bernada 2534 and the Tete de la Tronche following the ‘Tour de Mont Blanc’ before descending back down to Courmayeur for some free time to explore this charming Italian resort before transferring back to Les Houches.
- Day 4 – Long hike - Walk from Vallorcine up to Loriaz, then carry on to the Col de la Terrasse. Descent is via Tres-les-Eaux. This is a long day of 7-8 hours of walking, including some chains down a slab at the end. (Absolutely stunning, but only for experienced walkers).
- Day 5 – Longer hike - Transfer from Chamonix to the Col de Forclaz followed by a walk up to the Fenetre d’Arpette, where stunning views over the glaciated Trient Plateau can be found, then back down to Champex in Switzerland. After a brief stop at the lake, we will then transfer back to Les Houches.
- Day 6 – Depart Chamonix
5 nights accommodation, 04 days trekking (The following day-walks should give you an idea about walking possibilities in the Chamonix valley. There are, of course, many more options, depending on preferences, clients’ abilities and weather conditions.)
(The walking is graded "B - moderate" and we will always introduce minor variations that take full account of your own wishes and personal objectives. We'll walk for an average of 5-7 hours a day with height gains of up to 800m (2,600ft). But we will also (included in the price) make maximum use of lift systems, particularly to avoid those long ascents and descents, which can be hard on the knees.)
